I’m embracing

My struggles.

They show I’m

Not only going

Somewhere,

But getting there.

Slowly,

Painfully,

Steadily,

Triumphantly,

There.

Everything God says

About us

Is good and true

And already settled

In Heaven.

Our part

In the grand scheme

Of things?

Quite simply to

Worship. Pray. Love.

When you open your eyes

What do you see?

Is it the

Unadulterated present?

Or reflections

Of inadequacy and doubt

Highlighting the unbearable

And belonging to

Times gone by…

I love subtle reminders

And this one is key:

Self-flagellation is sooooo old hat.

Besides,

Do I really want to be accused

Of stealing Jesus' thunder?!

When I went to Bible School, it was with the express idea of getting to know God better. I imagined sitting rapt in class whilst the lecturers explained exactly what God meant in every obscure book of the Bible; then afterwards groups of us students would sit in the library poring over multiple translations and commentaries as we divided the Word over strong black coffee...

Of service

Albeit

Not necessarily

In the public eye.
