Insidious is a word that describes many an action nowadays. Or perhaps I should say the lack of any.

All the things we should do or say but don't because of a little old thing called fear masquerading as peer pressure - which starts early in life.

Being way too popular for our own good and ignoring the ‘nerds’ at school because they weren't hip enough, even though they were extra nice and really helpful.

Not standing up for someone who was being maligned lest the slanderer become vexed with us instead...

Seeing the pain and distress of those we purported to love, but turning a blind eye as getting involved was time, expense and basically a whole lot of negative emotions risky...

Silence as deafening as an empty hospice room after the battle between life and death is over.

I would've liked to think that I'd always made a stand when and where necessary, but who am I kidding? Trying to recall the times I didn’t - because my focus was elsewhere / I simply couldn't be bothered / I was actually plain scared - make for uncomfortable memories.

Yesterday, a zillion text messages heralded the beginning of August. And auspiciously so.

The verb 'augēre' means:

• to increase • to enlarge • to augment.

How apt is that?!

What better time to play our part in increasing others?

Developing meaningful relationships.

Boosting shattered confidence.

Mentoring the overlooked and underappreciated.

This is as good a time as any to add value by disrupting the silence that holds others bound and ourselves culpable.

Are you needed on the other side of a motorway?

Trek the 100m to the closest zebra crossing.

Is someone beckoning from the top floor of a high-rise?

Climb that staircase even when there isn't a lift.

Does lending your voice threaten to diminish your social standing?

Jesus survived the Sermon on the Mount.

Just thinking out loud here...

Today is as good a time as any to love.
