More Than, Less Than

We will always

Either be

Looking forward to

Or getting over

Something.

The good

The bad

The beautiful

The downright ugly

Forming a

Never-ending cycle

Of anticipation

Versus despair.

Up today, down tomorrow

With no-mans land

Straddling whatever gaps

We could fall through,

Ungodly heights

We might soar to,

Hoping to avoid

Scorched soles

On the way down

And seared brows

On the way up.

The journey of life

Will give, then snatch back

Teach us to love

Then live without.

But in doing so

Remind us to

See what glows

In the rubble

What shines

In the darkness.

We make the most, then

Of each season

However painful

Whenever joyful

Lest we squander

The lesson

Miss the message

End up clueless

Fruitless

Unfulfilled

Sad.

So, yes

Life will always

Be harder,

Yet easier.

Unbearable,

Yet survivable.

Near soul-destroying,

But still so very refreshing

In the aftermath.

In other words

Our lives

Will be the ones

That only our resolve, adaptability

And dogged, unflinching faith

Will see us through.

Glass empty?

Glass half full?

Or glass forever

Being filled.
