In The Moment
Musing about what I’d tell my younger self were it likely I had the chance to travel back in time, I was surprised to realise my answer would be somewhat trite.
It's the kind of question that often pops up at the end of self-help manuals; by which time the psychologist-cum-coach assumes the eager reader-cum-patient has seen the light and is ready for some deep reflection.
Assumptions! A topic for another day!!
Right now, though - without encouragement - I’d definitely say to "trust the process."
And yes, I know, we hear this in every other slick motivational talk.
But it is true.
Especially for Christians.
Because the word process denotes order; synonymous with a systematic course of action which brings growth, development and progress.
In other words, everything God brings to the table that He created.
All my life I either worried about how the impossible situations I found myself in would resolve themselves, or if my seemingly haphazard life would ever make any sense at all. It never really did.
However, with every twist and turn I was able to catch glimpses of a comforting pattern; failing backwards, then forward, and forward again as I lived the life I was in as if it were all I might have whilst still hoping it wouldn't be.
Are things any clearer now! Not 100%, yet more than enough to take the edge off wondering what comes next.
Fallow ground, dank water, mottled grey skies all looming large? The seeds of your destiny are germinating nonetheless; each tentative bud proof that you're actually experiencing life rather than blithely bouncing from one puffy but insubstantial cloud to another.
Stick it out.
If God promised it, He'll deliver.
In the meantime, look out for signs. The tell-tale ones that encourage you to not treat each moment as a preamble, but part of the whole shebang.
I haven't often gotten what I wanted, but been blessed instead with the goodness of God every step of a deliciously winding way.
He is the quintessential "PRO" in the process, so fasten your L plates and prepare to chug along at His speed and direction.
Kairos.

📖 Clearly, you are a God who works behind the scenes, God of Israel, Savior God. Humiliated, all those others will be ashamed to show their faces in public. Out of work and at loose ends, the makers of no-god idols won’t know what to do with themselves. The people of Israel, though, are saved by you, God, saved with an eternal salvation. They won’t be ashamed, they won’t be at loose ends, ever.
