Visible Lack

Cos here's the thing - there's a good chance other folks are thinking exactly the same about you. For various reasons, at any one point in time, anything we do will seem counterintuitive and detrimental to somebody else.

Sometimes it's us, and sometimes it's them. But mostly it's both, because we all react negatively to the invisible yet lethal fissures that lace our frames, constantly threatening to crack us open and lay us bare to the world.

Who could blame us for refusing to see the unlikeable bits of ourselves mirrored in those around us? Plus, it's one thing to know we're on the edge, and quite another to actually be seen falling.

Sure, we feel invincible behind our veils. If, however, you've ever attended a wedding ceremony, you’ll know how flimsy these are. Even a heavy lace mantle reveals the bride's face every time she moves...

And movement is something we all have in common. Physical and mental. Be it backwards or forwards, we still see and measure; judge and discard; evaluate and eviscerate. All because we cannot bear to see in others anything that depicts us as less than whole.

The bad news?

It's a futile exercise.

Memory is malleable, but short of natural degeneration or a full-scale scientific experiment, we're stuck with it.

The good news?

The Bible tells us in Matthew 5:3 that:

“Blessed are those who recognize they are spiritually helpless. The kingdom of heaven belongs to them."*

Love is the only antidote.

Breaking down barriers.

Healing.

Reconciling.

Good when reciprocated.

Best when simply given.

The Kingdom awaits us all.
