Head On
I am embracing
My struggles.
They show I’m
Not only going
Somewhere,
But getting there.
Slowly,
Painfully,
Steadily,
Triumphantly,
There.
So even though
Zero hassles exist
On an empty path -
No rogue foot
Tripping me up,
Or suspect elbow
Nudging me
Into obscurity -
I find that
Azure skies,
Tranquil waters,
And gently
Refreshing breezes,
Divert my focus
All the while
Lulling me into
A false sense
Of security.
Better
To be steered
Kicking and screaming
Into a storm;
Cushioned hull
Bashed against
Jagged rocks;
Close to drowning
In the relentless flood...
Because
At the end
Of every
Eventful journey -
Beyond the
Surging crowd,
Perilous pitfalls,
Agonising heartache -
There is
A ‘something’
Worth achieving,
That ‘somebody’
Worth fighting for.
It is here
When He sees
That I have
Survived the hunt
With scars to prove it
Yet realise
They are not mine
But His;
When
There is
Nothing left for me
To overcome
Alone
And my testimony
Is all that matters;
God meets me.
I learned
The hard way
To choose people.
For good or ill
For or against me
Over a tranquil,
Unmessy,
Trial-free life,
That beckons enticingly.
You see,
There is no plan
Without them.
Never, ever forget
It is about
Those people
Along your path.
They are
Invaluably
Essentially
Unequivocally
As much a part
Of your story
As you are theirs.
Therefore
It will always be
As much about them
As it is about you.
