TUSKS & ALL

Hands and Heart

Does our past

Predestine our future?

Not in the least.

Grace continually

Rescues us

From such indignity

Seamlessly

Moving us along

On our

Odyssean treks

Ignorance to Wisdom

Poverty to prosperity

Scarcity to abundance

Selfishness to selflessness

Sin to salvation.

Faced with

That harrowing sense

Of inevitability

We are unknowingly

Given a pass;

Mercy

The bridge

We use

To get from

A to Z

Without even

Seeing it.

I put it to you

Though

That tomorrow

Will thank you

For thinking of it

Now.

Long before

You can touch it

And feel it

Best to

Dig thoughtfully

Deeply and determinedly.

Scoop up

The earth

Whilst still

Soft and pliable

Leaving

Monumental mounds

Behind you

Evidence

Of your intent.

Don't stop

Until you hit

The water table

Then savour

Its wonder

Recognising

Its freshness

Was meant

For all alike.

Thirst, you see

Is a communal

Disease

Slaked only

By the generosity

Of those

Who understand

Its cure.

Be resolute,

Therefore,

In your

Pursuance

Of its nemesis

Because

Your neighbour's life

May very well

Depend

On your ability

To soothe and quench

Their aridity

By watering them

Somewhere

Down the line

Whenever that future

In question

Has arrived.
